Engineered sub-second Shopify architecture for a high-volume supplement brand.

Morphus, a rapidly growing nutrition and wellness brand, was struggling with a slow Shopify storefront and complex inventory management. Their existing theme, bloated by third-party apps, was severely impacting mobile conversion rates. We engineered a custom Liquid engine from the ground up, decoupled cart logic, and established a direct bidirectional sync with their ERP.

The Challenge

The client was experiencing checkout drop-offs due to a DOM rendering time exceeding 2.5 seconds on mobile. The root cause was a dependency on eight different third-party apps handling bundle building, tiered pricing, and subscriptions. These apps loaded disjointed JavaScript assets that blocked the main thread. Additionally, warehouse inventory was constantly drifting from Shopify stock due to polling delays.

What needed to happen

  • Strip all non-essential third-party apps from the theme.
  • Rebuild the bundle and tiered pricing logic directly into the theme using Vanilla JS and the Storefront GraphQL API.
  • Achieve sub-second interaction times for cart slideout mutations.
  • Build a custom webhook receiver to synchronize inventory from the 3PL in near real-time.

The Solution

Instead of patching the existing architecture, we developed a headless-inspired cart system living within a native Shopify theme. By leveraging the Storefront API, we bypassed standard Liquid form submissions, enabling instant cart updates without page reloads. We then deployed a lightweight Node.js middleware to process webhooks from the ERP and push inventory adjustments to Shopify via the Admin API, ensuring 99.9% accuracy.

The Result

The streamlined architecture dramatically reduced JavaScript execution time. The brand achieved a 94/100 Mobile PageSpeed Insights score, up from 32. More importantly, the frictionless checkout experience contributed directly to a 42% increase in mobile conversion rates within the first 30 days of launch.
